this wasnt one of my better drawings because i still need to practice facial features and work on shading the face
for this project i enjoyed using the chalk pencils to blend and show value but i struggled with drawing it because there was a lot of detail to show in a small object and it wasnt easy
for this drawing i used my own unique ideas based on a drawing i actually took while i was at the fair. while i was walking down the street of the fair by food carts i saw cotton candy and the bag was see through and thats what this project was. i didnt draw the photo i took but i used it for inspiration to help with drawing the cotton candy and how the bags looked.
during this project i learned how to make something look transparent and became better with the white prisma color pencil to show depth. i also got better at blending the prisma colors to show transition in highlights and value. also i learned which colors work for pushing the darks. when i started this project i was going to only go with the two bags of cotton candy up front but then it looked boring and two dimensional so i decided to put some bags in the back to show a more realistic representation of a food cart that sells cotton candy. when i added the three bags in the back it made the whole drawing look much better. i still thought i needed something so i drew the back of the food cart and pushed the darks under the cotton candy to show the shadow they made for this project i used pastel pencil and they were easier to use than the chalk and the lines were smoother
during this project i got better at using the charcoal pencils. before i didnt like charcoal but when it is used on the brown paper it looks pretty cool. the way it is shaded along the paper makes everything look more realistic. when drawing with the charcoal pencil everything was more bold and made it stand out more
for this project i wasnt sure if the brown paper would be a good idea. when i started drawing my project the drawing stood out more on brown paper and shows good value. and i was able to show contrast between black and white charcoal because it wasnt on white paper. i stepped back to look at the work after i finished what i had originally planned with just the hand and baseball and realized the drawing look empty so i drew a stadium with a scoreboard and colored in the sky so it showed a back ground and made the hand and baseball look a lot closer during this drawing i got better with pencil skills. i learned to control my pencil better while drawing smooth lines. i also learned to shade better while using the graphite pencils. i still dont like charcoal and refuse to use it. this artwork reflects who i am because i like to chew gum and this piece was about unwrapping gum. i thought it was fairly easy to draw this because it was a flat rectangle. at the same time it was hard to shade because it was a flat rectangle for this project i used a graphite shading pencil which i have never used in the past. it was different because i had to get used to it so it made the drawing darker than i wouldve liked. at the same time the drawing looks smoother so i will probably continue drawing and shading with this pencil. |
